We want to emphasize the therapeutic benefits of pet visitation in our home, which can help reduce feelings of loneliness and improve the overall well-being of our residents.
We invite family members to bring their pets to visit their loved ones. However, it is important to adhere to the following guidelines:
- The pet must be under the care of a licensed veterinarian.
- The pet must be free of parasites.
- The pet must be on a flea control program.
- The pet must have up-to-date vaccinations, flea/tick medications, and deworming treatments.
- The pet must be free of any lesions.
- The pet must have been bathed and maintained good oral hygiene.
- The pet’s nails must be trimmed and filed.
- The pet must display an appropriate temperament.
Please note that animals showing any of the following conditions may NOT visit residents:
- Urinary or fecal incontinence
- Open wounds
- Ear or skin infections
- Flea or tick infestations
- Signs of distress
Before bringing your pet into the home, every pet owner must provide current proof of vaccination to the Volunteer Coordinator (or an alternative contact) that meets the above requirements.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. If you have any questions, please get in touch with the Volunteer Coordinator or the Programs and Services Manager at 416 536 7122 x 253 or 269.
