Adult Day Program

Notice: Until further notice the Adult Day Program is closed due to COVID-19.

We will post more information as soon as it is available.

Copernicus Lodge’s Adult Day Program is a community-based service which provides a variety of planned social and medical activities throughout the day which will activate, stimulate, motivate, rehabilitate and work toward supporting the client’s health and well being and improve physical functioning.

Clients may include persons who have begun to lose functional, and/or mental capacity, have Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, developmental disabilities, visual problems, mental illness, living alone and in need of social outlets, and/or have caregivers who work outside the home. Provision of respite care for family care givers and prevention of inappropriate institutionalization of older adults is now possible through the services offered by this program.

The design supports efficiency in providing support, and evokes a comfortable feeling of warmth while supporting privacy, dignity and personal individualized space in a familiar, supportive, safe, secure, caring environment within their own cultural milieu and within their own peer group. Within the area is a separate safe drop off and pick up location, a kitchen, open common and lounge areas, a bed rest area, shower room, male and female washroom facilities, and a staff work area with open access to supervise clients. Security systems have been installed at all door entry locations and an emergency nurse call system has been installed in all public areas and washrooms.

Staff are specially trained to provide this level of care and service. Services are specialized and client-driven by using a client-centered approach in all client encounters and decisions, promoting the Residents’ Bill of Rights while respecting and using sensitivity in the spiritual, linguistic, cultural and ethnic aspects of a client’s life, as such all services and programs are provided in the Polish and English language.

Services are available 4 days/week:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Up to a maximum of 15 - 20 clients can be accomodated per day. Day Program Clients have the option of attending one day per week up to the 4 days per week depending on their needs and preferences or a half day option is also available. The Day Program Manager completes an assessment to determine eligibility and an individual’s suitability for the program.

The program receives financial support from the Ministry of Health; however, each client pays a minimal fee of $30.00 for a full day or $20.00 for a half day in attendance. This cost includes a hot lunch, 2 snacks (with special dietary requirements being accommodated), supervision with grooming and hygiene (shower), medication assistance, planned and supervised recreational and social activities. We offer separate men’s and women’s programs. Assistance in arranging transportation to and from the program is also provided.

Day program activities occur in the Day Program area, Central Facilities, public areas, outdoor areas and the community. Day Program clients where possible, integrate with Supportive Housing tenants and Long Term Care residents through center-wide activities. Day Program clients benefit from the availability of onsite services such as the existing onsite chapel with daily mass, hairdressing, psycho-geriatric and social work services, health clinics (foot care, and dental care), a Snoozelin room for alternative therapy, education and support groups for both families and clients.
